On October 1, 2022, after an overnight flight from my home in Toronto (YYZ), I landed in Sofia, Bulgaria (SOF) to meet my 10-day Balkan bus tour group. Bulgaria became the 21st country on which I set foot:

This made it my:

  • 1st time in southeastern Europe
  • 1st time in a country whose official language was written in the Cyrillic alphabet
    • Bulgaria is spelled Π‘ΡŠΠ»Π³Π°Ρ€ΠΈΡ in Bulgarian!
  • 2nd Slavic-speaking country

I would meet the tour group at the hotel for a briefing session. The next day, we would start our bus ride to Serbia! The tour would end after 10 days in the same city, where some of us would participate in a walking tour of Downtown Sofia.
